Lauren M. Rand, Teacher/Tutor/Coach/Owner

Lauren Rand founded this business back in 2010. She is a certified special education teacher with her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Connecticut and her Master’s degree from Central Connecticut State University. Lauren has over 15 years of teaching in both public and private schools as a special education teacher as well as a language arts and technology teacher. She has focused many of those years teaching teaching at the secondary level which has allowed her to become adept in all curriculum areas. Lauren has specialized training in the Wilson program as well as other reading programs. She is also certified to teach Adult Education and to teach English to Second Language Learners. Her experience from elementary through college levels allows her to fully understand the scope and sequence of how students learn at all developmental ages. Lauren has the joy of being married to a fellow educator, Scott. They have four children who vary in age from their late 20’s through high school to elementary age. In her free time she enjoys reading, exercising, and spending time with her family.

Jessica Lavin, Teacher/Tutor

Jessica Lavin has just recently moved up to the Hartford area. Originally from New York, Jessica earned her Bachelor’s in Childhood Education and Master’s in Literacy and Special Education from St. John’s University in Queens. She was an Academic Advisor for freshman students at St. John’s, helping them choose career paths and classes. In 2014, she moved across the country with her husband to Colorado. While living in Colorado, Jessica was a substitute teacher and then a first grade teacher. She continued to follow her husband in his Army career to Georgia, where she again taught first grade. In 2018, Jessica welcomed her daughter and has been a stay-at-home mother since. In her free time, Jessica spends her time reading, listening to podcasts, and cooking. She has completed training in the Orton-Gillingham approach, miscue analysis, and various literacy assessments.
